Cabinets, Fixtures, Etc

Hello.
Hannah here again.
Sorry it's been so long with updates.

The desk and kicthen cabinets were put in sometime prior to when this picture was taken on December 18th.

The french doors leading from the kitchen to the living room. Notice the lovely door handles? The man who did the trim and such worked one day from 6:30 am until midnight to get all the doorknobs and such on.

The shower & shelving in Mom & Dad's bathroom. At the time of this picture, the shelving still had to be painted.

Just in case...

Just in case no one has updated in the past few days...I thought I'd write a brief note!

This is Laura, by the way.  I've really been enjoying being 'home' again, though I can't say I've been much help with packing and getting things ready.  Thankfully my parents are very gracious and allow me to just bum around for a couple of days!

The house is done!  I may say that a tiny bit prematurely, but the final walkthrough and inspection is later this morning.  There are a few minor things that need to be done yet - such as mirrors in the bathrooms, but that's it!  Last night the cleaning ladies were here - a sure sign that things are moving along nicely.

Is it really happening?  I guess so!  We have a couple of people coming by this afternoon to start helping - do they expect us to have things packed?  Cause we don't.  I think our philosophy on this move is "clear off surface, move furniture.  replace surface stuff - oh, and dust while you're at it!"  :)  Doesn't that just sound like fun?

It has been so tempting to want to do the fun stuff - like figure out where to hang pictures and whatnot, but we've been refraining, and hope to leave them on the walls in the old house until things are moved in.

So maybe someday we'll get some pictures posted - I know I have been as eager as you to see pictures of the new house, but being on this end of things (with dialup internet), I understand the lack.  So forgive us, and come and see for yourself!  Though we may give you a box to carry...

one week!

Hello, Hannah again. I have finally gotten to uploading some 'new' photos for the blog. Some of these are over a week old.

Here (above) you get a glimpse of the current/old house.

Last weekend (?) the bricks were still curing at the front of the house.

The basement is trimmed in white . . .

. . . while the upstairs trim & doors are a medium-stained wood.

Here's the front of the house again - all bricked up!

Wonderings

It's the 11th, my baby brother's birthday! Happy birthday big guy! Hope you have a grand celebration for life is a grand affair.
Maybe, just maybe we can move our stuff over to the new house in 11 days. Will it happen? Your guess might be as good as mine! The new photos will come but I have left the camera at another new home - Dave and Kristin bought a place just down the road from us in the town of Gadshill. Sure is neat to have them close by. So I will post a photo of their new home too - when I remember to bring the camera home.
Our home has the tile floor in, that whole house (not garage) is painted, the trim is up downstairs, the wood floor will go in later this week, soffit and facia (sp?) are supposed to start being put up today or tomorrow. we shall see. We need a furnace, a water heater and some electrical and plumbing work done. Oh, and a kitchen. And only 8 working days left. Who knows if it will all come together. the good thing is that we have a home to live in and don't have to rush to be out of it - but we haven't put a tree up here with the hope that we can put one up in the new house. It is now wait and see when. Lots to ponder. We are snug here and thankful we don't have to travel on foot to Bowmanville for a census! Our governors of today do things much differently than they did in the time of Jesus birth. Not that I would be opposed to seeing an angel with some awesome message. I guess that is more likely than a 'travel for census' given the times.
Either way, we keep busy, we sit, we wait. Life is worth all the ponderings!

some bricks, paint & trim

Hannah here (with edits from Mom).
Just adding a few photos.

They are done bricking the east and west sides, as well as the back of the house.
This week they will finish the south side of the house and that will be finished!

They have also started painting!

This is the master bedroom

This photo is taken from the kitchen looking into the
dining room..

Below is the family room in the basement.
As you can see, the painting has yet to begin here!

The trimmer is hard at work in the basement and all the doors are hanging down there already! It is really taking shape and we are thinking we might be in this home before Christmas. We haven't put a tree up here with the hope that we can put one up in the new house and just enjoy that one! Don't worry, the girls have some Christmas lights up in their room and they are really enjoying turning those on and off each night and morning!

Come on in!

Hannah and Kierra are waiting to welcome you in. Ok, the front door is nailed shut so you can't come in. but do you want to come in for a coffee or tea in January? We would love to have you! (photo - Dayna)

Dayna sits on the scaffolding at the back of the house - perfect picture spot. (photo-Hannah)

A picnic in the new house

What a beautiful day for a picnic! Indoors off course and we celebrated having walls and warmth and not much colour. But that will come! This week the brick layers hope to finish the outside brick, the mudders will be done and the painters will come in right behind the cleaners...things are rolling along.
I will try to add another photo or two tomorrow - it takes so long to load on this dial-up that there's no time left for today!

Build your house....

We are amazed at how the building is going! On Tuesday of this week the place was quiet and we had no one to serve the 3pm coffee and cookies to. On Wednesday the place was once again a-buzz and on Thursday the drywallers arrived. They will finish their job tomorrow and then the tapers can come! Amazing how many people we are meeting! The brick has arrived and the bricklayers will come Tuesday to begin the bricking process! Amazing how nice and snugly it is in there with walls and insulation.

Wow. At this rate is it quite simple to see that we will meet the target date of December 22 - that being the date that we walk our stuff from this house to the new one!
Here are some photos for you to view
This is taken from the doorway of our bedroom. A view to the south and east.

the kitchen and beyond towards the garage.

Dave & Kristin got married!

More photos

Photos (top to bottom): Dayna & Cadence on the trampoline; me {Hannah} holding Ava; Kierra & Dayna 'in the bathtub'; and 'on the back porch'

Inside the house

Here is a photo of Mom & Dad {Ev & Henry}. They are standing right in the kitchen & dining room area. To the left is the living room & entry way. Directly down the hallway behind them is the garage. To the right is the laundry room.
From the looks of things, the house has the pumbing & electrical roughed-in, as well most of the windows and over half of the doors.
This is beautiful, smiling, 5-month-old Ava. Mom & Dad often have the grandkids for an afternoon or overnight, which is gives Dave & Kristin a break and gives the rest of the family lots of good quality time with Cadence & Ava!

The Roof: Part 2

Hey. Hannah here again. We can't seem to upload photos from mom's laptop at their house. So for the time being, I have been given the blogging task.
This is what the house looked like yesterday, November 10th...

...compared to what it looked like a week and half ago!

(This blogging thing is new to me . . . and I can't seem to get my pictures to go in the order I want them to. And how do some people get captions on their photos?)

The Roof!

Hi. Hannah again. It was pretty neat to be at Mom & Dad's last night and to see the roof up. It is starting to look like a real house! They put the rafters on on Thursday(?) and the plywood on yesterday (photos to follow at a later date). Rumour has it that if it doesn't rain, shingling will begin this week.

The Walls!

Greetings. Hannah here. Just trying to post those photos for Mom. Here are a couple photos of the walls and glimpse of the new driveway! These photos were taken on Wednesday, October 31, 2007.

Framing

A beautiful sunny day and photos to prove something is happening on the new house. The girls have a PA day today and were happy to be in the photo. As you can see they put on their pioneer dresses this morning so that they could bake bread and muffins! They are standing in front of the house by the basement bedroom windows on the south side of the house.

This photo is taken from the back of the old house looking towards the north east. The garage is on the far left and the main entry will be on its immediate right. Then the living room (nothing framed on main floor yet) and the bedroom 'wing'. It is going to be a wonderful house!! In the background you can see the backhoe working away - they are putting in the septic system!

Time to go. Cadence and Ava have arrived to spend the day so me thinks my hands will be busy indeed.

The thing about blogs

In reality I have only checked out between 20 and 25 blogs and faithfully check 3 or 4.  Only one of those have I read since the beginning and how it began I cannot recall.  Blogs to me are just musings of whomever for whomever to read whenever the whomever writes and the other whomever reads.  But how does one begin?  My simple guess it to simply begin penning (with keyboard and no ink) the ideas of the mind.  Our blog is to let you know how things are progressing here, especially with the new house.  Later today or tomorrow I am going to learn how to add a photos so you can actually see the progress but fornow you will need to do the imagining.
In May of this year we packed up our stuff once again and hauled it about 35 minutes down the road and around a couple corners.  The new place is near the village of Gadshill which sits a mere 8 km north of Stratford.  Back near our old stomping grounds.  Great place.  We've dubbed the ground here Forestview Acres and we have put 2 farms together (just not on paper) so we have a rambling 250 acres in total.  The second farm has a very old bank barn with most of it's barn boards still attached.  The home acreage has an old frame house that will come down next year some time and a barn which has been renovated inside to house our growing flock of Ile de France sheep.  The idea of moving here was to move into a 'good' house and the fact that new is quite good sits well with all of us.  We won't miss this old thing.
After hemming and hawing about how and where and who in regards to the new house, construction actually began on October 1st with the hole digging!  The 'hope day' of the completed house is December 21 but that of course, depends on the weather.
So, that's the house story.  More in the 'years' to come on the farm, the sheep, the family and all they find themselves thinking and doing.

The things you can do these days!

Well, I didn't mean you, I actually meant me. Who would have thought that I could work on a blog and even get a photo on it. Amazing stuff. Hope you enjoy the 'new house'!

This is a photo of Kierra and Dayna standing where the house will be built. This is taken September 29th and the beans came off on the 30th.

The digging day - October 1, 2007

The raised portion is the garage and just beyond it the rest of the house.

Kierra, Cadence and Dayna stand near the garage and the forms that will be put up next week. The date is October 5. What do you think, is it possible for us to be in this house by December 22nd? As always, we shall see!

October 19, 2007
The backhoe came in and did the backfilling and also dug out and built the new driveway! Things are coming along. On the 22nd the basement floor was poured - a lovely brown concrete taht will be our floor for a while. But it will be heated so it will be wonderful! The plan is for framing to begin on the 24th or 25th and for shingling to be happening by November 1st. I promise to keep you posted!
All in all, this blogging is ok. And it will be a good way for me to have a 'book' of sorts documenting the happenings here at least over the next few months.
